Doha, Qatar, 4th September 2025 – King’s College Doha is proud to announce a long-term partnership with Doha Rugby Football Club (DRFC) as the main sponsor of the Minis and Youth section. This collaboration reflects King’s College Doha’s commitment to education beyond the classroom, the promotion of grassroots sport, and the values of inclusivity, community, and character development.

The partnership builds upon the success of the inaugural King’s College Doha Cup, held in November 2024 as part of DRFC’s 50th Anniversary celebrations, where over 400 young players from Qatar and across the GCC came together in a showcase of passion, teamwork, and sportsmanship.

Through this extended partnership, King’s College Doha and DRFC will provide opportunities for young people to participate in rugby at every level, supporting their growth both on and off the field.

At the heart of this collaboration lies a strong alignment of values. King’s College Doha nurtures pupils through the Five Cs – Confidence, Curiosity, Creativity, Commitment and Care – qualities that resonate with DRFC’s ethos of enjoyment, aspiration, respect, teamwork, and pride. Together, the they will foster resilience, sportsmanship, and community spirit in young players across Doha.

“King’s College Doha is delighted to strengthen our partnership with Doha Rugby Football Club,” said Kate Jackson, Principal of King’s College Doha. “So many of our pupils already play in the Minis and Youth section, and this long-term collaboration reflects our shared belief in the importance of character, teamwork, and inclusivity. Just as we nurture our pupils to be confident, curious and caring learners in the classroom, rugby offers them the opportunity to develop these same qualities through sport. We are excited to support DRFC in providing a culture of training, aspiration, and respect, and in helping the next generation of players thrive.”

Tim Newnham, Chairman of DRFC, added: “This partnership with King’s College Doha represents a milestone for our club. Their commitment to supporting grassroots rugby, young player development, and inclusivity perfectly complements our mission of being the best rugby club we can. With King’s College Doha as our Minis and Youth sponsor, we are building not just teams, but future leaders who carry forward the values of respect, teamwork, and pride.”

Huw Ifan, Head of DRFC Minis and Youth section, said: “Week in, week out we see how rugby helps young people grow in confidence, resilience and respect. With King’s College Doha’s support, we can broaden access across all age groups, invest further in coach development and player welfare, and create even more festival and match opportunities, including pathways for girls and new players. Most importantly, this partnership keeps enjoyment at the centre of everything we do so that more children in Doha can discover a lifelong love of the game.”

The partnership will see King’s College Doha and DRFC collaborate on tournaments, community events, and player development programmes throughout the year, reinforcing their shared mission of creating opportunities for children and young people in Qatar to grow, both as athletes and as individuals.
