Chairman's Update

Dear all,

Firstly, I’d like to welcome you all after what seems like a very long summer! This year is no doubt going to be a bit different from previous years at the club if there is no change in the political situation soon. However with the support of members, and a proactive approach by the teams and club management to ensure that we still secure playing opportunities and that the club remains vibrant and busy, the other ExCom members and I are confident that we can have a fruitful and positive year.

Playing update
We are still looking to confirm playing opportunities for all of our teams however we have a number of potential options for games and tournaments nearly finalised across all playing categories (including with Kuwait, Lebanon and Oman).

Although as Doha RFC we are not currently allowed to participate in the Dubai 7s, we have managed to field at least one team in the International Invtational Men’s Tournament (The Xmen) and are looking to secure places for all our teams.

We have agreed with QRF that DRFC will put up three teams to play in the local league and many of these games will be played at the club. There are also a number of local Minis and Youths tournaments already pencilled in for our younger players. The Minis and Youths teams take a huge amount of volunteer time so if you are able to help with any element (coaching, management, first aid – even helping out on the BBQ during training) please get in touch with Gayle Nelson (This email address is being protected from spambots. Club Update
It was great to see so many of you at the welcome back party this weekend – and what a party it was. I think those of you that were there will all join me in extending your thanks to Lauren and the bar team for putting on such a great event.  There are many more events planned in the coming year including the movie night, ladies night and the summer ball - watch out for more to be announced in the coming months.

Finance update
Year-on-year, the club’s financial situation has improved slightly for July and August however this is largely due to the savings that are being made on overhead costs.  In July and August we saw bar revenue increases thanks to events organized during the summer. Membership revenue is currently slightly down however, this may be due to the late Eid and people not being back in the country so we’ll include more info in the next couple of month to include September’s and October’s figures.

Although we now have a number of sponsors on board, we are still seeking sponsorship for our teams and the club grounds. If you work for, or know of a business which may be interested in getting involved please get in touch with Lauren (This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.)

We are currently looking at strengthening relationships with a number of other sporting groups and organisations to support each other through these challenging times. We have confirmed that 10 metafit sessions will now be held at the club each week (Sun-Thurs 8am and 5pm). These will be offered at a discounted rate for members – and even further discount for players (100QAR saving per month)! We are also working with CrossFit Oryx to establish special offers and gym access for players and there are a number of swimming and fitness classes for children being held. You can read more about these offers here (Doha RFC) on the website.

I’m always pleased to hear your feedback so please let me know if you have any comments about the topics discussed or about this update.

I look forward to seeing you soon, Martin.
