Doha Ladies in London

As if winning the cup final B League in Dubai only a few months ago wasn’t enough these Doha ladies continued their season in London over the weekend, competing in the Find Rugby Now 7’s Festival.

Rachel Innes, Lana Kulas, Hanna Gildam-Clark and Hollie Blenham (pictured) all played an outstanding season for our Ladies Oryx team but captain Lana Kulas decided their season wasn’t quite done when she recruited the Doha Ladies to play for her old team Teddington. Read on to see what Lana had to say.

The current blockade of Qatar suggests that next season could be a challenging one in terms of our teams getting game time. So, to make sure we got some rugby action, myself and three other Doha Ladies took the opportunity to play some rugby in an unusually sunny London over the weekend. Rachel, Hanna, Hollie and I took part in the Find Rugby Now (FRN) 7s tournament, representing the Teddington Ladies in both the Open and Social leagues. It was a great day of rugby with some of our girls scoring tries and being more than up for the challenge, especially when we realised that the Gulf A League Dubai Sharks were also there as part of their tour.

The link with Teddington is not new.  Both myself and Hollie used to play for them before coming to Doha and one of our former Doha Ladies, Ann Marie Heward, joined them when she moved to London two seasons ago.  Now that Hanna and Rachel have relocated to London, it is hoped this tradition and link may continue.  Who knows, we may even explore the possibility of the two clubs meeting in friendly competition at some point.

A great day of rugby, sun and fun was had by all, showing what rugby is best at: bringing people together in the spirit of friendly competition.”

Well done ladies!
